Position: Drilling Superintendent - Western Newfoundland
Black Spruce Exploration Corp. (BSE) is an exploration and production company with property rights, licenses and interests in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The company has the mandate to determine the best methodology for safely extracting hydrocarbons from these reserves and is committed to responsibly developing the immense energy resources in Western Newfoundland. At BSE’s head office in Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador you will coordinate and supervise the activities associated with the drill site of the various exploration wells that BSE will drill in Newfoundland.
Specific responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following: Oversight of and input into drilling rig modifications in Houston prior to shipment to Newfoundland; Manage daily activities of drilling operations in accordance with company management systems; Schedule and coordinate all resources, includes recommending selection of contractors/service companies; Consulting on, reviewing, critiquing and approving well cost estimates and drilling procedures prepared by drilling engineers; Participating in the development of optimum operational, financial, safety and environmental goals; Implementation of lessons learned to continuously improve overall performance; Actively participate in well design reviews and risk assessments; Ensuring all operational changes to plans are properly documented as per management of change procedures; Ensure HSE Emergency Response Systems are developed, documented, tested with simulation exercises and that the Drilling Team is capable of responding to HSE emergencies; Reviewing and approving rig inspection, incident investigation and safety meeting reports; Ensuring communication and follow-up on deficiencies/remedial actions are conducted as per action plans.
A post-secondary degree, diploma, and/or equivalent work experience; Minimum of 10 yrs related drilling rig experience and a minimum of 5 yrs in a supervisory capacity; Well control certification; Understanding of basic accounting principles (cost control and budgeting); Computer literacy; Ability to build strong relationships and to work both independently and as a team member; Solid industry experience with a safe work history; A commitment to safety, personnel management,self development and dedication to training others; Right attitude, patience and strong communication skills.
